SUITE DREAMS
The free for all challenge was to make a card base on the Nutcracker Suite. I grew up in a musical family and knew the music for the Nutcracker Suite long before I ever saw the ballet. I was very disturbed by the fight between the Mouse King and the Nutcracker the first time I saw the ballet. I went with a collage look for my card. I printed the title and ballet shoes using Microsoft word. I stamped and cut out the ticket. I added sparkly lace for the sugar plum fairy. The Nutcracker is from a Mark's Finest Papers set called Christmas Postage Due. Did you see the tail of the Mouse King in the corner? The gold music notes are from a Layers of Color set called Joyful Noise.

Quilled Snowflake Thank You Card
The free for all challenge at Splitcoast was to make a card to have on hand to thank a hostess who is especially generous to you. I made this for my senior pastor's wife, Ethel. She works so hard each year to host our annual Thanksgiving meal at the church's fellowship hall. She spends hours decorating, planning, cooking and cleaning up afterwards. She has such a servant's heart and doesn't do this for man's praise or thanks, but she definitely deserves to be thanked! I used the sentiment stamp from Mark's Finest Papers - THANKFUL MUMS AND PUMPKINS set. I stamped it randomly on a piece of dp that I got several years ago from the dollar store. I zig zag stitched the panels to the card. The ornament is attached by a piece of thread that is taped to the back of the top 2 panels. It can easily be removed.

If Jesus Goes with Me
This card was a statement of faith for me. I made it for two splitcoast challenges. The first: a ways to use it challenge to use a frame, and the second: a Friday free for all challenge to paper piece. I wanted to make my card with a vintage feeling. I printed the hymn "If Jesus Goes With Me." from the Timeless Truth's Library They have hymns that are public domain so that you can print them and use them with out copyright infringement. I printed it on white printer paper and it needed some distressing. I first swiped tan ink over the top. I then took matches and burned the edges. I then took tea bags and let them stain the paper in an un-even pattern. The frame was a chip board frame that has been in my stash for a couple of years. I covered it with paper from K&Company that had a vintage look. I made little hand made roses to compliment the roses on the designer paper. I punched them out of cream cardstock and watercolored them with pink and peach colors. The vellum quote of taking ONE DAY AT A TIME really spoke to what I wanted this card to be. I knew I wanted to use these two hat pins with pink tops. I added lace, from an old curtain. I used pewter brads to hold the layers together. I paper pieced the butterfly. I stamped it so that each wing would have a rose on it. I seldom make my butterflies this way, I usually just color them. I want to share the first verse and chorus to the hymn that I used: "It may be in the valley, where countless dangers hide; it may be in the sunshine that I in peace abide; but this one thing I know, if it be dark or fair, If Jesus is with, I'll go anywhere! If Jesus goes with me, I'll go anywhere! 'tis heaven to me, wher-e'er I may be, if He is there! I count it a privilege here, His cross to bear, If Jesus goes withme, I'll go ANYWHERE"

Joy Fold Card
Both of these cards use the Joy Fold technique. Today's Friday Free for all challenge was to make a card with a flap. They are also for the Stampin' in Sisters Challenge to make a prayer card.
The first one has the first verse of Sweet Hour of Prayer:
"Sweet hour of prayer! Sweet hour of prayer! That calls me from a World of care, and bids me at my Father's throne, make all my wants and wishes known. In season of distress and grief, my soul has often found relief, and oft' escaped the tempter's snare, by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!"
I used the butterfly from Layers of Color Flutterescent set.
The second one has this scripture:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thankgsgiving, present your request to God. And the peace of God, which transends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
I used the little girl from Mark's Finest Papers Thankful for you set. I paper pieced her dress and added lace for her apron. I masked and layered the wheat and corn shocks.

Sideswiped Waterfall
Today's Friday Free For All challenge was to make a card that accentuated the side of the card. I decided to make a waterfall that was off center to the side. I like how this one turned out, but I probably won't make one to the side again. It isn't as strong as when it is in the center.Monday, March 22, 2010
