Favor "FAKE CAKE" for Showers..We added flowers

We made this favor cake today from $12.00 in dollar tree supplies. We bought the silver tray, 4 packages of ribbon, 3 packages of 12 favor boxes. THen I bought two bouquets of white roses, and two of baby's breath.

I cut the band on the cricut, out of 12x24 inch paper. We cut a ring out of card board with slits in it, put it in the middle of the tray, then we put each of the favor box handles through.

The bottom layer of the "cake" is probably 15 inches. I think we used 18-20 boxes..I'll count later. The top layer was formed in a 8 inch cake pan until we put the paper band around it. We cut an 8 inche circle on the cricut that we put under the 8 inche layer.

 I put the ribbon spools in the middle and glued them together to make a pillar to sit the 8 inch layer on it. We added some frilly bows, and the heart border around the bands.

We might add some flowers to add some color.

We still need to take it apart and put something INSIDE the favor boxes later. The wedding is not until October.

This is a similar idea to diaper cakes but made with favor boxes.

More Wedding Cuts..a quick Scal 2.0 lesson

I was able to bit trace this photo in inkscape. I turned it into this heart.

and ultimately into this specialized wedding circle that actually has their picture in it!
Do you think I could make it into a stamp? I wish I'd paid attention to all those stamp making posts!

I bit traced in scal 2 and had great results too. I forget I can do that now.
Here are my images from my scal bit trace. I did like I could change the "despeckle" and get rid of some "noise" in the photo automatically.

I was able to make the image inside a heart by

Choosing the heart from basic shapes.
Making a slightly larger heart
Subtract small heart from big heart making a 'heart frame"(either path front minus back or path back minus front)
Put image inside of heart path UNION
Now I wanted to fill in sides and holes between image and heart outline. I used triangles and ovals and overlaid them on the image. Selected it all. Path UNION

By the way there is a new scal 2.11 upgrade available.

Table Centerpiece Lights

This one was cut in silver.

As I was looking at my butterfly light, I realized it was just a triangle, and I should be albe to make one in Scal. Using another scene I had of a wedding couple that I'd been working on for my son's wedding, I cut that, put a piece of velum behind it. Then I cut a piece the same height, and folded it in half, then glued it onto the velum backed cutout. I used some flickering battery powered candle lights from dollar tree to light it up.
Viola...instant decorations! You could make these for any party, putting any silhouette type pictures in the "frame". Many of my silhouettes in the fonts would work great.

This one was made about 5.5 inches high. It lets the

light go higher making it look less like a forest fire is about to consume them! lol

It also lets you cut a light out of a single piece of 12x12 paper.

I'll give you my file, but you will see you can just make your own with any framed silhouette type images.

I doubt anyone will need this exact light! The butterfly image from the previous post works nice and you can "color" it in on the velum.

Another idea would be to make the "tissue box" and cut out one side for a velum insert.

Who needs a glass block? lol

Watering Can Favor Boxes to cut on your Cricut

I finally figured out how to make a trapezoid shaped box more like the inspiration boxes. Here is the new picture:

I saw a watering can favor box on a wedding web site, and thought I'd try to make one, to go with the flower vases I made the other day. I couldn't get the trapazoid shape quite right, so I went to a rectangle. These would be cute mixed in with the flowers we made the other day.
