Got Butterflies????

I made this butterfly milk carton for the Limited Supplies challenge, although I have to admit it wasn't very limited, and for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge. I know the purpose of the limited supplies is to show what you can do as a beginner. I only used white cardstock for this project. I brayered one piece with dark green and lime green ink. I then stamped greenery with dark green and lime green. I played with my new cuttlebug to make the windows. They could have been just as well cut out with scissors. I taped acetate to the inside of the windows. I made two porcelain butterflies using my LAYERS OF COLOR stamps and tied the milk box with a ribbon. I filled it with kisses.

1 Peter 1:23 (NIV) "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God."
That is the scripture for the Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge. We were reminded that seeds send out little shoots of green. We have the hope of eternal life, because of Christ. We were planted in Him, and as the Holy Spirit works on our lives we begin to grow. Little green shoots that give us a glimpse of what we will be like after this world. We were to use green in a project to remind us of our eternal hope. It didn't have to be all green just a touch. I couldn't help myself and there is not just a touch of green, but a whole lot. I guess I just got carried away because I'm tired of white, outside my window.

2 more long and tall cards

Two more long and tall cards for the limited supplies challenge.

New Moon

I made this for two challenges, the Stampin' B challenge to make a card with red, black and white and a moon on it. It was also for the limited supply challenge to make a long tall card. I gave this card to my daughter. She used it as a thank you card. Her friend took her to see the movie New Moon.

A card for Noah

The limited supply challenge last Friday was to make a card for a little boy named Noah who is dying of cancer. He likes angel images because he is going to be with the angels soon. I have had this angel image for several years. I colored the robe with prisma colored pencils and added glitter to the wings.

Thankful Cardinal

I made this cardinal for the limited supply challenge. We were to make a thanks or thankful card with a bird on it. My friend Vicky asked me about my tutorial. I thought I had it on my blog already but I didn't. I made this tutorial last year.

Materials: Aleene's tacky glue; red, gold and black cardstock; white opaque marker; circle punch; heart punch; scissors

Punch two circles- one red and one black. Punch two hearts- one red and one gold.

Taking the scissors cut a pie piece out of the black circle.

Using the opaque white marker make a dot on the pie shaped piece. This will be the cardinal's eye.

Take the scissors and cut a D shpae off of the red circle. Save the D shape.

Cut the D shape in half.

Place the pie shaped piece of black on what was left of the red circle and glue.

Glue the punched heart to the back for his tail.

Glue the gold heart as his beak.

The D shape that you cut in half, take one of those pieces to make the wing.

Grace like Rain

Today's Limited supply challenge was to make a card showing what the weather was like today. It rained off and on all morning and thankfully is starting to clear, because we have a fall festival at Church tonight. So for my rain card, I used my little girl in a rain coat and my raindrop texture plate. We were also to do a 2-2-2 challenge and then tell what our 2's were. I use a 2 step process to make my raindrop panel. I embossed and then brayered with blue ink. My second 2 is that there are 2 different fonts that I used on the sentiment. The sentiment is from a Todd Agnew song that combines AMAZING GRACE and his chorus. The last 2 was I have 2 layers on the little girl. I stamped her once on white cardstock and once on yellow cardstock. I spread glue over the surface of the yellow cardstock. When the glue dried, it has a look of a real raincoat.

Dance in the rain

The limited supply challenge was to make a girly card. This little girl image came to my mind. I embossed the raindrops and brayered over them with blue to make them stand out. I printed the sentiment on my computer. I paper pieced her raincoat and hat with yellow cardstock. It doesn't show in the photo, but there is a layer of clear fingernail polish on the coat and hat that makes is really shiny.

SOS

Today's Limited Supply Challenge was to use SOS on our card. My first S was Snoopy. My O was oblong (the word window punch). The last S was Scarecrow. I also think it could have been S for Stazon ink, O for orange leaves and S for scrap, this paper was a scrap left over from yesterday's card. SOS. I used a joy fold to make this card. I kept the blue plain because I wanted Snoopy's shirt to stand out.
The little leaf in the corner holds the card shut.
First inside view.

WOW medallion

Kelly's word of the week or WOW, was Expend. to pay out, spend, consume by use, or use up. I had been hoarding this paper that is at the top. I would think that hoarding would be the opposite of expend, so the only way I could expend was to use it up on this card. I cut out the medallion. I colored parts of it in with my prisma colored pencils. I added some pearls from my friend Anne Ryan, and I added a hot glue pearl to the center. I added ribbon at the top which disqualified me from following all the rules of today's limited supply challenge to use only 4 embellishments. I tried to argue that the center was really not an embellishment since it was only hot glue and fingernail polish and everyone knows that glue is an adhesive not and embellishment. I don't think anyone bought that excuse. Oh well, I did get the other part of that challenge to use spooky, fall color combos.

Retiform Tutorial

I have a very easy technique to share with you.
To do the retiform technique you need
3 to 4 different inks that are complimentary
and vary from a dark to light.
The other materials needed are a brayer,
an acrylic block and post it notes

Ink up the brayer using the lightest color of ink.

After putting ink on the brayer, I roll it over the acrylic
block to make sure the ink is spread evenly.

Then I roll the brayer over the cardstock.

I place 3 post it notes randomly on the cardstock.

Ink up the brayer with 2nd lightest color of ink.
Roll on acrylic block(not shown again).

Then I roll the brayer over the
post it notes and cardstock.

I add more post it notes. Randomly placed.

Ink up brayer again with next to darkest ink.

Roll over the post it notes. You get the idea. Add the last
few post it notes and use the darkest ink using the
same steps as the other inks.

After using the darkest ink, pull the post it notes off
and you have a geometric looking paper.
Wasn't that easy?

Here is a card that I made for today's limited supplies challenge
using the retiform technique..
We were to make an opposite card. We were to use our:
oldest set... my roses are my oldest set.
newest tool... my brayer is my newest tool.
favorite colors... turquoise and peach are my favorite colors.
least favorite embellishment... mine are the swirly clips.

4 different cards using different mediums to get a verigated color. Sunset and garden was done with chalks, uninhabited island was done with a ruler, masking and different colored inks sponged on, the butterflies were done with Joseph's Coat technique where you add color to the paper, emboss and then cover with a darker color, and lastly my little monkey card has variegated green inks for the background of the jungle.

Thinking of You!!

I made this for my friend Cathy. She has a wacky sense of humor and I think she will appreciate the juxtaposition of the sign and the outhouse. I made this outhouse several months ago, but couldn't find a use for it until today. The Splitcoast Limited Supply Challenge was to use a die cut. Since I don't have a die cutting machine, I used my flower punches. I made my flowers using 2 different sizes of flower punches. I added rhinestones to the centers and made paper crimped leaves. I cut a fringe for the grass. I chalked clouds in the sky and drew in a couple of birds. I stamped the Thinking of You sentiment on a piece of white cardstock. I added brown ink and drew in lines with my prisma colored pencils to make it look like wood. This is all on a school folder.(Gotta love the back to school sales when these are really cheap!!) I opened the folder up and folded down the top half. I then punched holes in the sides to attach the twine closure. I am going to fill it up with stamped images.
