Card for Allison

This is the hardest card I have ever had to make. It is for my sister in law. Her husband died suddenly this morning of a heart attack. We are all still in shock. It is hard to make a card than conveys what I really feel. I feel sad, I feel sorry that she is going through this hard time. So hard to make a card say that. I chose the sentiment because it made me think that death is so sad for us, but for the loved one who has gone to be with the Lord, who is in the Master's hands is happy. It is just our perspective of the same event. My sister in law sent my husband a rather poignant poem last night. He didn't open it then, because he is really bad about opening e-mails that aren't work related. He did read it this morning and it made both of us cry. It was a poem called Slow Dance. According to the e-mail, it was a poem written by a teenager with terminal cancer. Her dying wish... she wanted to remind everyone to live their life to the fullest.

Go tell the people that you love that you love them. Be truly thankful for the time God gives us with them. I hope you have a good Thanksgiving Day.

Quilled snowflake

This is for 3 challenges. The SCS sketch challenge, the DDC challenge which was to use plaid and a button, and for Kelly's Word of the Week challenge. Her word this week was limbus. It basically means border. I have several white limbi (the plural of limbus)around each panel.

Furfuraceous Snowman

Kelly's word of the week this time was Furfuraceous. It means to be made up of flakes or covered with flakes. A snowman is made up of snowflakes. I also covered the ground on my card with flakes. Not snow, but styrofoam (scraped off a box with a knife), salt and glitter. I also used this week's scs sketch challenge.

WOW quilled snowflake

This is for the SCS Sketch challenge and for Kelly's Word of the Week challenge. Kelly's word was achromatic: meaning no color. My snowflake is what is achromatic. I quilled the big snowflake and added some hot glue pearls.

Magic Card

I made this magic card for my mother. I was thinking about Cindy's black and white teaparty challenge to bring color when I made this card. I was also thinking about Kelly's word of the week #10 which was CHINWAG: to converse, chat. When you pull the tab all the way out it says I love my talks with you. And finally I was thinking of the Stampin' Sisters in Christ challenge to make a card showing thankfulness. I am thankful that my mom and I can talk on the phone everyday even though she lives in Phoenix and I live in Iowa.

WOW FLUBDUB

This is for Kelly's Word of the Week. The word was FLUBDUB. It means foolish nonsense talk, and it also means showy and cheap. The first thing that came to mind was the poem Jaberwocky by Lewis Carroll. I love this poem. I did retiform with yellows pink and red. I used dp that I haven't ever because it really isn't my style. I then added some gaudy sequins. I was going for a wild, cheap looking card, but I actually really liked how this card turned out. It is one of my favorites.

WOW - IDEAL

This is the card that I made for my friend Kelly's Word of the Week Challenge. The word was Ideal.

Sketch challenge and WOW card

I made these cards using today's sketch challenge. I really liked this sketch. My top card is also for Kelly's word of the week. This week's word was sinistrorse. It means : of a plant- twining spirally upward around an axis from right to left. I hope my little pumpkin vine is sinistrorse not dexatrorse.

These are the cards that I made for the sketch challenge and for Kelly's word of the week challenge.

The leaf card was my first thought. I burned the edges of the long panel. But then my twisted mind thought of my piggy card. I used some of the buttons that Kelly gave me at the side to go with the little button nose of my piggy.

WOW medallion

Kelly's word of the week or WOW, was Expend. to pay out,spend, consume by use, or use up. I had been hoarding this paper that is at the top. I would think that hoarding would be the opposite of expend, so the only way I could expend was to use it up on this card. I cut out the medallion. I colored parts of it in with my prisma colored pencils. I added some pearls from my friend Anne Ryan, and I added a hot glue pearl to the center. I added ribbon at the top which disqualified me from following all the rules of today's limited supply challenge to use only 4 embellishments. I tried to argue that the center was really not an embellishment since it was only hot glue and fingernail polish and everyone knows that glue is an adhesive not and embellishment. I don't think anyone bought that excuse. Oh well, I did get the other part of that challenge to use spooky, fall color combos.

Windstorm

My friend Kelly has a challenge on her blog on Wednesdays. She calls it Word of the Week. This week the word was WINDSTORM: a storm marked by high wind with little or no precipitation. I used the same sketch for both of the cards. I embossed the panels and used a brayer to go over the embossing. I went for WINDmill and WIND blown leaves.

Sunset

This is for the Sketch Challenge at SCS and for my friend Kelly's WORD OF THE WEEK challenge. WOW02. Her word for today was IMPEARL, to form into pearls. I used my hot glue pearls. I formed the hot glue into pearls by dropping them onto foil and painting them with white pearly fingernail polish. I played some more with my brayer. I paper pieced the little girl's dress.
